Quick answer
If you only need to send invoices in another currency, FreshBooks and Wave let you do it on any plan. Wave is free and records exchange gains and losses for you. If you need full multi-currency accounting (foreign bank accounts, bills and reports across currencies), it sits on a specific tier. Zoho Books is the cheapest route in the US, UK and Australia (Professional, from US$50). QuickBooks adds it on Essentials (US$85). Xero, Sage and MYOB keep it on their upper plans.
Prices are regular monthly prices before tax, from each provider’s official pricing page (18–19 October 2026). For the full field, see the best accounting software for small business by country.
Foreign-currency invoicing vs multi-currency accounting
- Foreign-currency invoicing: billing a client in their currency and converting to yours when they pay. That suits a freelancer with a few overseas clients.
- Multi-currency accounting: foreign-currency bank accounts, supplier bills in other currencies, exchange-rate updates, and gains and losses in your reports. That’s for importers, exporters and businesses holding money in more than one currency.

Zoho Books: cheapest in the US, UK and Australia
Zoho Books lists “record multi-currency transactions” on Professional in its UK edition, and multi-currency is on Professional in the US and Australia too. Professional costs US$50 a month (US$40 billed annually), £24 (£20) or A$33 billed annually, and also adds projects and inventory, with 5 users. Over a year in the UK, that’s £240 billed annually, against £660 for Xero Comprehensive and £708 for Sage Plus.
One caution: Zoho says an organisation’s base currency can’t be changed after setup. See our Zoho Books review.

QuickBooks Online: multi-currency on Essentials
QuickBooks adds multiple currencies on Essentials: US$85, C$70 or A$60 a month, with 3 users. In Canada it’s the cheapest full multi-currency option we found. See our QuickBooks Online review and Canada guide.
Xero: top-tier, but no per-user fees
Xero keeps multiple currencies on a higher plan in every market: Established in the US (US$97), Comprehensive in the UK, Australia and New Zealand (£55, A$107, NZ$117), and Premium in Canada (C$80), South Africa (R1,095), Singapore (S$95) and on its global plans (US$75). It costs more than Zoho or QuickBooks, but there are no per-user fees, which matters if several people work across currencies.

Sage and MYOB
Sage puts multi-currency banking on Plus in the UK (£59) and Canada (C$72, alongside an exchange-rate gains and losses report). In Ireland it’s the €37 Accounting plan, and in South Africa an R185-a-month add-on. See our Sage review.
MYOB keeps multiple currencies on AccountRight Premier: A$210 a month in Australia and NZ$120 + GST in New Zealand. MYOB’s Premier page says you can send quotes and invoices in 150+ currencies. Premier also adds a second business and multiple warehouse locations.
FreshBooks and Wave: invoicing in other currencies
Wave’s help centre explains that you can change the currency on an invoice or bill. Wave records the expected exchange rate on approval, then books unrealised gains or losses on the balance sheet, and realised ones when you record the payment. That’s on top of a free Starter plan, which makes Wave a strong pick for US and Canadian freelancers with overseas clients. See our Wave review.
FreshBooks lets you set the currency per invoice, and its dashboard lets you toggle between the currencies you’ve used. Reports such as Invoice Details filter by currency, so you see one at a time rather than a combined view. See FreshBooks review.

Your home currency is fixed
Whatever you choose, pick your base or home currency carefully at sign-up. Zoho says an organisation’s base currency can’t be changed later. Wave’s help centre says the business currency can’t be changed once set, and only USD or CAD are available. If you trade from more than one country, a separate organisation per country is often simpler. Our how to choose accounting software checklist covers that and the other limits worth checking.
